TV’s “Bachelor” and winemaker Ben Flajnik will be pouring his wine for local fans when he makes an appearance at Midway Wine and Liquors in Greenburgh from 2-5 p.m. on Saturday.
Flajnik’s appearance is the first celebrity event at the newly opened store in the Midway Shopping Center on Central Park Avenue. Upcoming appearances include Sonja Morgan of “Real Housewives of New York City” fame on Aug. 2.
For Flajnik, a celebrity wine tasting/talk makes perfect business sense, and his appearance does have a little bit of a local connection. As “Bachelor” fans remember, he co-owns Envolve Winery in Sonoma, Calif.
The co-owner is Michael Benziger, whose family not only owns and runs Benziger Winery in California, but were also long time White Plains residents.
“Mike and I have been best friends since sixth grade,” Ben tells us, explaining that they met after they were both transplanted from the Northeast to California at a young age.
“We work really hard,” Flajnik says. “We have friends and family working for us too, which gives us a little bit of identity.”
Something else his winery his known for? “We do things organically and bio-dynamically,” says the entrepreneur, 29, who tells us he has always found fermentation fascinating.
Flajnik would rather discuss wine than his romance with Courtney Robertson, to whom he proposed after a whirlwind reality TV romance on ABC’s “The Bachelor.”
But the couple is still going strong after Robertson accepted Flajnik’s final rose (the symbol of romance and commitment on “The Bachelor”) and an engagement ring from the winemaker at the end of ABC’s dating competition.
And does the man who became famous for dating two dozen women on television have any recommendations for wines best served on a romantic date?
“It doesn’t matter. As long as there’s wine on the table,” he jokes.
