Due to renewed interest in seeing “Beasts of the Southern Wild” on the big screen – four Oscar nominations will do that for a film! – Fox Searchlight is re-releasing the acclaimed flick across the country starting this weekend in select theaters, including Pleasantville’s Jacob Burns Film Center.
The Burns is scheduled to screen the movie, directed by Hastings’ own Benh Zeitlin, today through Thursday, Jan. 24. For movie times, go to www.burnsfilmcenter.org.
And on Sunday, pick up a copy of The Journal News or go to LoHud.com for reporter Heather Salerno’s feature on Zeitlin.
She sat down with the first-time, 30-year-old director in New York two days before he became an official Oscar nominee, and he talked all about the making of this little indie film that could.
Now, the movie is up for Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actress (for its star, 9-year-old Quvenzhané Wallis) and Best Adapted Screenplay (for Zeitlin and co-writer Lucy Alibar).
But if you just can’t make it out to the Burns this week, there’s still a way to support Zeitlin: “Beasts” is also available on DVD, Blu-ray, digital download and video on demand.
