Oxygen launches a new model search reality competition tonight at 9 p.m., with the help of three supermodel mentors, including Hastings-on-Hudson’s Coco Rocha.
Along with the legendary Naomi Campbell and fellow bombshell Karolina Kurkova, Rocha will help 12 young women learn if they can make it in the cutthroat world of catwalking and secure the grand prize: a contract as the face and spokesperson for ULTA Beauty.
The Canadian-born Rocha, whose nickname is the “Queen of Posing,” is a favorite in the world of high fashion. The 24-year-old is a muse to designers like Karl Lagerfeld, Zac Posen and iconic photographer Steven Meisel.
But here’s why we really like her – aside from the fact that she recently made Westchester home with her husband, interior designer James Conran. Rocha does tons of charity work, lending her support to a group that saves girls from human trafficking in Cambodia and another that assists Haitian orphans.
Plus, she’s the rare model who speaks out when she sees something wrong inn the industry. She’s talked about the prevalence of eating disorders and is part of The Model Alliance, which fights for worker rights for models.
