“American Idol” contestant Melinda Ademi, a Yonkers resident, will head to Las Vegas for a new twist in the Fox singing competition: The Sudden Death Round.
Ademi, 19, made the cut when the Top 40 was chosen on last week’s prerecorded episode. Now, at this stage of the semifinals, the contestants will be split by gender to compete in front of the judges Wednesday and Thursday nights through Feb. 28.
10 semifinalists will perform each night – girls on Wednesdays and guys on Thursdays. Each night, the judges will choose which five will stay and which five will be sent home.
The top 20 contestants, which will all be revealed Feb, 28, will move on to the live performance shows. At that point, viewers will vote for their favorite singers after each episode. Contestants will be eliminated each week until only one remains. The winner receives a $1 million recording contract.
No word yet on whether or not Melinda will perform in tonight’s group of ladies. But it’s worth watching anyway to check out her competition.
