All together now: “R.e.s.p.e.c.t…Find out what it means to me!”
Aretha Franklin performs her previously postponed concert at the Westchester County Center tonight.
The Queen of Soul, who celebrated her 71st birthday on Monday, will belt out her her biggest hits.
Some of favorite songs to sing? “There are too many,” she said in a recent interview. ”Certainly, among them would be “Respect,” “Jump to It,” “Natural Woman,” “Rock Steady” and “Nessun Dorma,” Pavarotti’s signature song.”
And Franklin has one goal whenever she steps on stage:
“I’m there to give the best performance I can,” she said. “The idea is to be as uplifting as possible and as inspiring to people as possible so they are glad they came and they leave with something that helps them throughout their day and on their way.”
But even the Queen of Soul needs a boost before each performance. Her pre-show routine includes sipping what she calls a singer’s dream: hot tea, honey and lemon.
