Paul Mooney is known for being outspoken about race. But it seems the comedian pushed the envelope too far during a show at Levity Live in West Nyack on Saturday.
A manager at the comedy club confirms that audience members stormed out of Mooney’s show after he made controversial remarks in the wake of the Boston bombings.
Though the manager who spoke to us on Monday says he was not in attendance and does not know the exact words Mooney used, a Twitter user claims the comedian said “white people in Boston deserved what they got and [it was] ok to lose a few limbs… and as long as no blacks got hurt, it was OK.”
Outraged audience members received refunds and the club canceled Mooney’s final show at the club, which was scheduled for Sunday night.
“At this point, this will probably be the last time he will be in the club at this location,” the manager, who preferred not to share his name, tells LoHud Lowdown.
Mooney’s publicist did not respond to our request for a comment.
