Here’s another reason to love Richard Gere: He helps those in need.
The actor and Pound Ridge resident helped dish out delicacies by Jeremy McMillan, executive chef of the Farmhouse at Bedford Post, on Monday night at a fundraiser benefiting Citymeals-on-Wheels. McMillan was one of the featured chefs at “Rumble at the Rock,” an annual showdown at Rockefeller Center between culinary experts from New York and California.
Gere, who owns the Bedford Post Inn with his wife, Carey Lowell, and Russell Hernandez, attended to show their support for McMillan – and the cause, of course. Check it out: The actor even put on a chef’s coat to serve some of McMillan’s mushroom minestra with pickled ramps (foraged right from the luxury inn’s property).
The battle raised more than $820,000 for the homebound elderly in New York City, who rely on Citymeals-on-Wheels to survive.
It’s a program close to Gere’s heart: His father was a meal delivery volunteer for Meals on Wheels in Syracuse for 22 years.
