Stephen Colbert took a week-long break from “The Colbert Report” following the death of his beloved mother, Lorna, who was 92.
And he did something he rarely does when he returned to the air last night: Colbert broke character to give a heartfelt eulogy for his mother, who raised 11 children, before starting the show.
She made a very loving home for us. No fight between siblings could end without hugs and kisses. Though hugs never needed a reason in her house. Singing and dancing were encouraged, except at the dinner table. She had trained to be an actress when she was younger, and she would teach us how to do stage falls by pretending to faint on the kitchen floor.
Colbert also pointed out that his mother was born in 1920, on Chatsworth Avenue in Larchmont. After that….well, we’re getting teary-eyed just thinking about what may will be the greatest tribute a mom could ever receive. Check it out for yourself.
