Teens across the country have spoken: New City’s Skylar Astin is their favorite actor!
Skylar picked up the award for Choice Movie Actor in a Comedy at the Teen Choice Awards on Sunday. The Clarkstown North High alum received the most votes from teens for his role as an a cappella singing college student in the hit film “Pitch Perfect.” (Read our Q&A with Skylar last year, before the movie’s premiere.)
Skylar beat out actors including Steve Carrell (for “The Incredible Burt Wunderstone”) and Jason Bateman (for “Identity Thief.”)
“Wow! I have not won an award since I was seven years old, for camper of the year at Camp Ramapo, so this is really exciting,” the lifelong Rockland resident said while accepting the award, a colorful surfboard.
“First and foremost, I want to thank all the fans. This isn’t from a secret academy or guild. This is right from you guys, right from your hearts, so this is the right from the bottom of mine,” he said.
Skylar also thanked his family, including his father Barry Lipstein. Skylar and his dad were featured in the Journal News on Father’s Day.
“What makes me proud is what he’s accomplished, but also that he hasn’t lost sight of being a good person,” Lipstein told us.
Skylar attended the Los Angeles award ceremony with his girlfriend and ‘Pitch Perfect’ costar Anna Camp. (Read the buzz about their new relationship .)
