More than 15 years after her album “The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill” became a Hip Hop/R&B classic, Grammy winner Lauryn Hill is headed to Westchester for her first-ever performance at The Capitol Theatre in Port Chester.
The show begins at 8 p.m. Friday, but her local fans are already counting down the hours.
“I’ve wanted to see her live since I was 6! She’s the best,” one Lauryn lover tweeted.
Before the soulful star takes the stage on Friday, here are six songs to get you excited about the much-talked-about show. Want to add to the list? Tell us your favorite Lauryn Hill songs in the comments!
1. “Killing Me Softly”
As one-third of the rap group The Fugees, Lauryn wowed the world when she showed off her soulful vocals on this remake of a Roberta Flack classic. We’ll hopefully get to hear this tune “one time, one time.”
2. “Doo Wop (That Thing)”
Don’t let the sweet chorus fool you, Lauryn’s first hit as a solo artist blasted her own generation for possessing the wrong values.
3. “To Zion”
Lauryn’s first child Zion Marley is already 16 years old, but fans will forever envision him as a baby when they hear Lauryn’s gorgeous tribute to “the joy of her world.”
4. “Lost Ones”
Rumor has it this angry tune was written for her former “Fugees” bandmate/ex-boyfriend Wyclef Jean. Will she deliver the lyrics with the same venom years later?
5. “Turn Your Lights Don’t Low”
Lauryn was at her sweetest when she recorded this posthumous duet with reggae legend Bob Marley, who happens to be grandfather of her children.
6. “The Ex Factor”
At her most recent shows, Lauryn reportedly reinvented this breakup anthem with a fresh reggae sound. Will she perform it the same way when she takes the stage at the Cap?
