Ain’t nobody’s business, but Tony winner Audra McDonald has a new gig. The Croton-on-Hudson resident will return to Broadway this spring in the role of Billie Holiday in Lady Day at Emerson’s Bar & Grill.
Audra will belt out 18 classics as the iconic jazz singer. The song list includes “Tain’t Nobody’s Bizz-ness” and “God Bless the Child.”
“[The show] is about a woman trying to get through a concert performance, which I know something about, and she’s doing it at a time when her liver was pickled and she was still doing heroin regularly,” Audra told the New York Times.
Lady Day at Emerson’s Bar & Grill, which takes place before Billie Holiday’s death at age 44 in 1959, will play a limited ten-week engagement at Circle in the Square, beginning March 25. Opening night is set for April 13.
