You remember Pauly Shore from his years as a MTV veejay in the late ’80s and early ’90s, right? Maybe you remember him from films including “Encino Man,” “Bio Dome,” and “Son-in-Law.” But if you remember Pauly Shore, you’ll also remember his alter ego The Weasel, the slang-inventing surfer/stoner dude who used catchphrases like “Hey bu-uddy!”
That was then. And now? Pauly is 46, producing and working on several projects. And this weekend, the comedian will take the stage at Levity Live in West Nyack for four shows Friday to Saturday (Tickets are $22-$25). Suburbarazzi exchanged emails with the star to find out what local fans can expect from his standup show.
Q: Should fans expect to see a different Pauly Shore from the entertainer we were introduced to the ’80s?
A: Can’t bite the hand that feeds you, but also need to expand my audience. I’m in my 40s now, so I’m talking a lot about what thats like. But I’ll always be sweet baby Weasel.
Q: How have you changed over the years?
A: I’m a stonier, crustier Weasel. A little rough around the edges.
Q: From MTV to Hollywood, you have had great experiences. Do you talk about those adventures in your standup act?
A: Absolutely. Part of my stuff is not only observational, but some autobiographical stuff as well.
Q: What’s the wildest memory you don’t mind sharing from your time at MTV?
A: My penis almost fell off in Daytona Beach. I had to put a splint on it – basically a popsicle stick with some string…
Q: Do you watch your own movies when they’re on TV?
A: I watch my own movies when they’re on CMT or TBS. I love them all, they’re like a fine wine – they get better with time.
Q:Are you working on anything you would like us to know about?
A: I have a documentary film entitled ‘Pauly Shore Stands Alone’ that will air on Showtime sometime in 2014 and will be available on other online platforms after that. Also in the next couple of months, I’ll be releasing my long awaited podcast entitled ‘Pauly Shore’s Interested.’
Q:Do you tweet?
A: Yes. Frequently. My twitter is @PaulyShore… Peace, I’m out!
