The cast of HBO’s Yonkers-focused miniseries ‘Show Me a Hero’ is shaping up.
Stars including Jim Belushi have signed on for the six-part
series, based on the nonfiction book by Lisa Belkin, about the racial controversy surrounding a federal court order to build low-income housing in middle-class neighborhoods of Yonkers in the ’80s.
The actors who will portray the key players?
Belushi will portray former Mayor Angelo R. Martinelli.
‘Star Wars: Episode VII’ actor Oscar Isaac will star as former Mayor Nick Wasicsko.
Former ‘Oz’ star Terry Kinney will play Yonkers Housing Authority director Peter Smith.
Michael Stahl-David of ‘Cloverfield’ will portray Wasicsko’s political consultant James Surdoval.
‘Being John Malkovich’ actress Catherine Keener will play East Yonkers homeowner Mary Doran.
Former Oscar nominee Winona Ryder will star as Councilwoman Vinni Restiano.
Broadway and screen star Alfred Molina will play Councilman Henry J. “Hank” Spallone.
A recent casting call recruited locals to be paid extras in the miniseries, written by ‘The Wire’ co-creator David Simon. Filming will begin in Yonkers in October.
