What do Ellen Page, Julianne Moore, Nicole Kidman and Meryl Streep have in common? Besides being Oscar nominees, they have a recent Rye connection.
The actresses have all visited Rye in the past few months. In town for their latest projects, they filmed scenes at locations including a private home, a beauty salon and City Hall.
On Tuesday, “Ricki and The Flash,” which stars Streep as an aging rock star trying to reconnect with her daughter, had a delicious filming day at Patisserie Salzburg of Rye. The cafe’s owner Manfred Hirz said Streep and the crew couldn’t get enough of his sandwiches and pastries during the day-long shoot. Streep enjoyed Hirz’s French cruller so much, she gave him a hug.
Yesterday’s shoot wasn’t the first time Streep filmed “Ricki and the Flash” inside a Rye business. The actress visited Numi Hair Salon on Purchase St. last month.
In October, ‘Freeheld,’ a gay rights drama starring Ellen Page and Julianne Moore, also filmed at multiple locations in Rye. And when New Rochelle’s Salesian High School changed their mind about allowing the movie to shoot on campus, the scene rejected by Salesian was instead filmed at City Hall in Rye Brook.
Another upcoming movie with scenes filmed in Rye: ‘The Family Fang,’ starring Rye native Jason Bateman and Nicole Kidman as siblings whose word-famous parents have disappeared. Notable Rye residents Bob and Lee Woodruff allowed the movie to shoot inside their home in August. According to Lee, the residence was transformed into “Nicole Kidman’s house after a bender & one night stand.”
