HBO has announced the premiere date for the standup special Rosie O’Donnell filmed in West Nyack last year.
The ‘View’ cohost’s show at Levity Live comedy club, located inside the Palisades Mall, will air on February 14. The network describes the special, titled ‘Rosie O’Donnell: A Heartfelt Standup,’ as a “hybrid form of standup, inspired by her near-fatal heart attack.”
“A large percentage of my act will be about what happened to me since my heart attack and how the world changes when you cheat death,” she told us in an exclusive interview before filming the special in December, 2014.
O’Donnell lived in Nyack at the time, so she didn’t have to drive far to take the stage at Levity Live.
“It’s not even 10 minutes [away],” she said. “We can really make it there in like 6.5 minutes. We timed it for when we are late for a movie at the mall…I know a lot of people are going to be the neighbors or the parents at the kids’ school. I think that will be an interesting audience for me.”
But the comedian, who has since moved to Saddle Brook, NJ, couldn’t decide if performing for a hometown audience would be harder or easier.
” It’s a little bit of both,” she said. “Sometimes, you’re better off when you know no one in the audience because you’re not second guessing what they’re thinking. Like, sometimes, comics stretch the truth or exaggerate: Lately, I’ve been doing this thing that my wife is from England, because she doesn’t really like it when I do her voice and, I was like, “OK, what about if I make you British?” People who know me are going to be like “What? She’s not British!”
