Ever find yourself in those strange situations where it would absolutely make sense for John Quiñones to pop up with a camera crew and announce that you’re being filmed for an episode of “What Would You Do?” Well, the cameras were actually rolling for customers at Jean-Jacques’ Culinary Creations in Pleasantville recently.
Local business owner Matt Messer was having lunch when he witnessed a group of kids trying to pressure a young teen into getting high with over-the-counter medication. Messer, who owns Sunrise Solar Solutions in Briarcliff, had no idea that he was being filmed for ABC’s hidden camera TV show, which puts unsuspecting people in upsetting scenarios to find out if they take action or stay out of it.
So, what did Messer do? We’ll have to wait until Friday at 9 p.m. to find out. But we have a feeling he did the right thing after watching this promo in which one woman declares that he is “the coolest guy.”
Other patrons also stepped in, Jean-Jacques store manager Patty Irwin told Suburbarrazi. “A lot of our customers got really involved and tried to convince the boys to make better choices.”
Irwin says it was the second time ‘What Would You Do?’ filmed at the cafe on Bedford Rd., setting up hidden cameras and microphones the night before and using a private party room as their control room. The next morning, extras are placed strategically at different tables throughout the restaurant so real customers are seated within earshot of the actors. Executive producer and host John Quiñones stays out of sight, listening to the drama unfold before entering the room to let customers know they are being filmed.
“We’ve been thrilled to be two-time participants on the show,” Irwin said. Jean-Jacques’ first episode, which aired in 2013, involved a mother putting her child on time out in the freezing cold.
The new episode of “What Would You Do?” airs Friday, June 12 at 9 p.m. on ABC. Now the question is, what would YOU do? Tell us in the comments.
