Kate Mara plays The Invisible Woman in ‘Fantastic Four.’ And the Westchester-raised star might have wished she was invisible during a recent interview to promote the new film.
Things got awkward for Mara when Steven J. Rickman of Atlanta’s Rock 100.5 Morning Show shared his thoughts on her new short haircut.
“You’re way, way hot,” the radio host said. “Why’d you cut the hair? Your hair was beautiful.”
“This is a great interview,” the Fox Lane High School grad replied. “I cut my hair for a movie I just did. ”
“What would you cut your hair for?” Rickman asked again.
“They asked me to. I’m an actress. I have to be a chameleon,” Mara said.
“And you’re going to grow your hair back hopefully?” Rickman asked later in the exchange.
He also went on to say “I’m a toe guy. Your toes are fine.” Mara simply replied “Wow” before a publicist stepped in to end the interview.
After a behind-the-scenes video of the interview was posted online, Rickman’s line of questioning was called sexist and inappropriate on social media. But Rickman’s cohost Jason Bailey defended the radio personality in an interview with Buzzfeed.
“Steve likes girl’s toes. People should be appreciative when they get complimented,” he said. “Those that are upset on Twitter, I guess don’t get enough of them. Who knows?”
Watch the video below, in which Rickman also asks Mara and her costar Michael B. Jordan how they could possibly play brother and sister in the film. “Am I missing something?… But you’re white and you’re black. How does that happen?” he asked.
