And the Teen Choice Award goes to…New City’s own Skylar Astin!
Astin beat out nominees including Bradley Cooper, Jim Carrey and, yes, even Chappaqua resident Ben Stiller, to win a coveted Teen Choice surfboard for Choice Movie Actor in a Comedy. Though teens loved Stiller in “Night of the Museum: Secret of the Tomb,” The Clarkstown High School North alum, 27, won for his role as a cappella-singing college student Jesse in “Pitch Perfect 2.” He won the same award in 2013 for his work in the original “Pitch Perfect” film.
The awards were handed out Sunday during a celebrity-swarmed ceremony that aired live from Los Angeles on Fox. Astin’s category was announced before the broadcast, but he did appear on stage to give out the night’s first award with “Modern Family” actress Sarah Hyland, who had an unfortunate stumble on stage that became the most GIF-worthy moment of the night. Luckily, Astin was steady on his feet throughout the event — he even danced the whip/nae nae on the red carpet.
Speaking of the red carpet, Astin arrived with mother, Rockland’s Meryl Lipstein, not his usual date, actress Anna Camp. Lipstein, a cancer survivor, looked stunning in a short, hot-pink dress. “So glad I got to bring my mama to the Teen Choice Awards tonight,” he tweeted after the show.
It seems Astin has been spending a lot of time with his family lately. While visiting Rockland last week, he tweeted a photo of himself and his relatives standing outside David’s Bagels in Pomona. While he was in town, he also paid a visit to one of his favorite places, Camp Ramaquois in Pomona. “My old summer camp Ramaquois looks more beautiful than ever,” he tweeted. “Thanks for having me visit and break [Rama Games 2015].”
