Get ready to pump your fists to a new song by classically-trained soprano Audra McDonald.
The Tony-winning Broadway star is recording a dance/pop track (yes, you actually read that right). However, McDonald, who lives in Croton-on-Hudson, isn’t embarking on a pop career. She is recording music for her upcoming movie “Hello Again.”
McDonald shared a photo of herself in the recording studio Wednesday. “‘Audra McDonald’ & ‘recording a dance/pop track’…2 things that have never been in the same sentence before,” she wrote on Twitter.
We’re guessing we’ll hear the track when “Hello Again,” a movie adaptation of Michael John LaChiusa’s chamber musical, hits screens in 2016. The film, which follows 10 “lost souls” in New York City, will also star Tyler Blackburn, Jenna Ushkowitz, Martha Plimpton, T.R. Knight and Rumer Willis, daughter of Bedford’s Bruce Willis. Filming is currently underway in New York.
McDonald, who recently appeared in Meryl Streep’s locally-filmed movie “Ricki and the Flash,” is also preparing for her next Broadway role. The six-time Tony winner will star in the upcoming production of “Shuffle Along, Or, The Making of the Musical Sensation of 1921 and All That Followed.” Previews will begin at the Music Box Theatre on March 14.
