Who will be the best dressed? Whose acceptance speech will we be talking about on Monday? Will host Ricky Gervais make celebrities squirm with his opening monologue? We can’t wait to find out what’s in store for Sunday’s Golden Globe Awards — and these are the top 5 Westchester and Rockland-related moments we can’t wait to see.
1. Lifetime achievement
Will he give a shoutout to Mount Vernon in his acceptance speech? Mount Vernon-raised actor Denzel Washington will receive the coveted Cecil B. DeMille Award at Sunday’s ceremony. The award is presented each year to an individual who has contributed outstanding work to the world of entertainment.
2. Show me a winner.
Did Oscar Isaac do some of his best work in Yonkers? The actor’s performance in the locally-filmed miniseries “Show Me A Hero” garnered a nomination for Best Performance by an Actor in a Limited Series or Motion Picture Made for Television.
3. Best Actress
Bedford native Rooney Mara is nominated for Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture Drama for her role in the film “Carol.” She is up against her “Carol” costar Cate Blanchett, who plays her married lover.
4. New year, new award?
Cross River resident Jeffrey Tambor is nominated for Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series (Drama) for his role as a transgender woman in Amazon’s “Transparent.” Tambor won the Golden Globe in the same category last year. He also took home the Emmy in September.
5. Orange is the new gold?
Netflix’s “Orange is the New Black,” which films at the abandoned Rockland Children’s Psychiatric Center in Orangeburg, is nominated for Best Television Series (Musical or Comedy).
The awards will air Sunday at 8 p.m. on NBC.
